Welcome to Upbuild Foundation's Community Uplift Project for the Rohingya in Karachi

Upbuild Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Planning at NED University in Karachi, has launched a research project to work on community uplift programs for the Rohingya community in Karachi, Pakistan. The Rohingya, a persecuted minority from Myanmar (Burma), have fled to neighboring countries due to ongoing military persecution in their native Rakhine State (Arakan State). Karachi has been home to around 400,000 Rohingya people for decades. However, as stateless individuals, they are not recognized legally in Pakistan, which restricts their ability to vote, obtain citizenship, access formal education, and enter the workforce.

The Rohingya are considered stateless people. Even after living in Pakistan for decades, there are no policies in place to acknowledge their existence as legal.

 Under these circumstances,

Rohingya cannot vote or apply for citizenship, which limits their access to formal education

and the workforce.

The Rohingya possess unique skill sets, including fishing and managing the catch from the ocean.  They are an integral part of Pakistan's fishing industry and economy, but they do not receive any public services in return.

Join us to make the change

At Upbuild Foundation, we are committed to improving the lives and well-being of Rohingya people.

However, the lack of comprehensive documentation often poses a key obstacle. The present

research proposal to bridge this gap is just the first step in achieving our goal.

Join us to make the change

We envision a community with equal access to health, education, housing, recreation, utilities, and infrastructure for men, women, and children. The next step is to set up a training center to teach technical skills to the community members in Arkanabad, Karachi.
